(AP Photo/Roberto Borea)SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - Silver Charm, jockey Jose Santos and trainer John Veitch each came close to capturing the Triple Crown. On Tuesday, the trio famous for their dramatic near-misses earned the sport's highest honor with their election to the National Museum of Racing's Hall of Fame.

Also elected were Mom's Command and Swoon's Son, jockey John Sellers and trainers Henry Forrest and Frank McCabe. The class of eight is the largest since nine were inducted in 1978.

Santos was aboard Funny Cide when the gelding won the 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness, and Silver Charm took the 1997 Derby and Preakness. Both horses fell short in Triple Crown bids in the Belmont Stakes.
