MILWAUKEE (AP) - A Milwaukee alderman was accused in federal court Tuesday of extorting more than $5,000 from business owners in exchange for favorable treatment on licensing matters.
Michael McGee Jr., 37, was charged with extortion and bribery, U.S. Attorney Steven Biskupic said.
The federal complaint detailed allegations from several unnamed witnesses, including a business owner who told investigators the owner gave McGee $750 out of fear that refusing to pay would jeopardize the person's liquor license.
