COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A coin dealer who was the central figure in a scandal that weakened the Ohio Republican Party illegally funneled money to state political campaigns, the Ohio Elections Commission ruled Thursday.
Tom Noe, serving a 27-month federal sentence for illicit contributions to President Bush's 2004 campaign, used an aide to make illegal gifts to state candidates, the commission ruled.
The commission referred the case to prosecutors in Toledo and Columbus, panel director Phil Richter said. If convicted, Noe faces a $10,000 fine.
