Gunmen Kidnap 8 Oil Workers in Nigeria

Friday, June 01, 2007 12:31:29 PM
By DAN UDOH

PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria (AP) - Gunmen attacked a residential compound for foreign oil workers Friday in Nigeria's southern oil region, kidnapping eight people including women and children and killing two police officers, police said.

Gunmen hit the same housing estate in the main oil center of Port Harcourt last month, seizing several Indians, said Rivers State Deputy Police Commissioner Bassey Inyang.

Inyang said three men, three women and two children — all foreigners — were abducted in Friday's raid. Their nationalities were not immediately known, but at least three Asians were believed to be among them, according to human rights workers in the region.
