NEW YORK (AP) - Chase Utley is drawing raves from his manager that were previously reserved for a cherished Hall of Famer. The quiet star hit a leadoff homer in the 11th inning and drove in three runs, sending the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-2 victory over the New York Mets on Tuesday night.
"What do you want me to say about him? I can't say enough," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "He is something really special. He's what I call a player. I used to say Kirby Puckett was my favorite player. I love Kirby Puckett, but Chase is getting there."
Utley's opposite-field shot to left off Pedro Feliciano (1-1) was the first homer the left-hander has allowed this season. The normally reliable reliever was charged with another run, too, increasing his ERA from 0.90 to 1.80 in 24 appearances.
