WASHINGTON (AP) - Charles William Maynes, editor of Foreign Policy magazine for 18 years and a former State Department official, died last weekend at his home in Chevy Chase, Md. He was 68.
From 1977 to 1980 he was assistant secretary of state for international organization affairs in the administration of President Jimmy Carter. He then became editor of Foreign Policy magazine, an influential foreign policy journal, and held the post until 1997.
"Of all the things he did, Foreign Policy was where his heart was," Moises Naim, who succeeded him as editor, said. "He was lucid, forward-thinking and imaginative."
