STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Mitch Moreland hit a two-run home run within minutes of being taken in the Major League Baseball draft Friday, leading Mississippi State to an 8-6 victory over Clemson in their super regional opener.
The Bulldogs (37-20) need one more win in the best-of-three series against the Tigers (41-22) to advance to the College World Series. The victory came in front of a super regional-record crowd of 12,620.
Moreland, taken 530th by the Texas Rangers, hit his sixth-inning homer off Daniel Moskos (3-6). The Clemson starter, taken fourth overall Thursday by the Pittsburgh Pirates, allowed five earned runs and nine hits in five innings.
