ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AP) - An Ethiopian court Monday convicted 39 opposition leaders and others in connection with election violence, concluding a trial that drew condemnation from human rights activists.
The 39, none of whom offered a defense, will be sentenced July 8, said Judge Adil Ahmed. They all face either life imprisonment or the death penalty.
The charges included "instigating and organizing rebellion against the government" and "outrages against the constitutional order."
