BANGUI, Central African Republic (AP) - A French aid worker for Doctors Without Borders was shot and killed Monday while traveling to a town grappling with poor health conditions in the Central African Republic, the humanitarian group said.
Elsa Serfass, 27, a logistics specialist for Doctors Without Borders, had been traveling from the group's regional base in the African country as part of an "exploratory mission" checking on health conditions in the town of N'Gaoundal, the Paris-based organization said in a statement.
The aid group said health conditions are "catastrophic" in N'Gaoundal. The town has been the site of fighting between rebels and government forces that has uprooted as many as 280,000 people, according to figures from the United Nations and the international Red Cross.
