FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - Landon Donovan got plenty of help from DaMarcus Beasley and from a controversial call that led to a key goal as the United States breezed into the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The Americans beat El Salvador 4-0 on Tuesday night, getting their first goal from Beasley and a big lift when Donovan converted a penalty kick in first-half injury time.
"It makes a big difference to go into half with a two-goal lead," U.S. coach Bob Bradley said, "but I think we felt like they were starting to get tired and that they put an awful lot into the first 20 minutes."
