HALLE, Germany (AP) - American James Blake advanced to the quarterfinals at the Gerry Weber Open by beating Russian teenager Evgeny Korolev 7-5, 6-1 Wednesday.
Blake, who had 16 aces, said he improved from Monday's three-set win over Sam Querrey in the first round of the Wimbledon warm-up tournament.
"I think that is as well as I have served in a while, not letting a break chance against me," said Blake, who lost to Korolev in February. "I think he is a good returner, so maybe that's why I served so well — I had too."
