WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) - Fiji is expelling New Zealand's top diplomat amid tensions over the South Pacific island nation's military coup in December, New Zealand officials said Thursday.
New Zealand, along with Australia, the United States and Britain imposed sanctions on Fiji immediately after the military's coup in December, with New Zealand refusing access to Fiji citizens connected to the military regime and cutting defense, sports and some aid links.
Foreign Minister Winston Peters said Michael Green, New Zealand's high commissioner in Fiji, would depart in a "very short time," and that Fiji had given no explanation for why it declared Green unwelcome.
