BALTIMORE (AP) - An argument over a called strike nearly ruined Felipe Lopez's chance to win the game. Two pitches later, Lopez hit a bases-loaded triple off Chris Ray in the 11th inning to carry the Washington Nationals past the Baltimore Orioles 9-6 Wednesday night.
In this interleague matchup between last-place teams, no lead was safe until Lopez delivered his go-ahead hit.
Ray (3-5) got the first two outs in the 11th before Robert Fick singled. Ray walked the next two batters and went to 1-0 on Lopez, then threw a low pitch that plate umpire Bill Miller called a strike.
