WASHINGTON (AP) - Christi Thomas scored a career-high 25 points and the Los Angeles Sparks nearly blew a 13-point lead in the second half before holding on for an 89-80 victory over the Washington Mystics on Friday night.
The Mystics (1-9), who trailed by 13 points in the third quarter, cut the Sparks' lead to 79-77 when Alana Beard hit a 3-pointer with just over a minute left in the game. But Kiesha Brown answered with a 3 for Los Angeles (5-2) and the Sparks went 7-of-8 from the free throw line to end the game.
LaToya Thomas scored 12 points and Brown and Taj McWilliams-Franklin both added 11 for the Sparks.
