OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Juan Encarnacion did the little things to get the St. Louis offense going again. So Taguchi did his share, too. Chris Duncan provided the power stroke with a pinch-hit grand slam.
Encarnacion doubled to extend his hitting streak to 16 games and drove in two runs, Taguchi had three RBIs, and the Cardinals bounced back from a rout a night earlier with a lopsided 15-6 victory of their own over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday.
Encarnacion's RBI groundout in the first put St. Louis in front. He added a sacrifice fly in the third before doubling to start his team's 10-run fifth that featured Taguchi's two-run double and a grand slam by Duncan the first of his career and his fifth career pinch-hit homer. It was the first pinch-hit grand slam by the Cardinals since Bobby Bonilla on June 15, 2001, against the Chicago White Sox.
