LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) - A general strike called by unions seeking to overturn government price hikes moved into its second day on Thursday, with streets increasingly deserted across Africa's most-populous nation.
The country's main economic activities appeared to be grinding to a halt, with banks and government offices closed for a second day, although there was no word on any oil production or export cuts from Africa's biggest producer of crude.
With fuel-delivery tankers stilled by the work action that began Wednesday, motorists were unable to fill their automobiles, forcing increasing ranks of workers to stay at home.
