BANGUI, Central African Republic (AP) - Dozens of rebels, including a top leader, have recently flocked into towns in this poor, coup-plagued country in apparent acts of defection.
In the town of Paoua, at least 29 of the rebels, who had belonged to the Popular Army for the Restoration of Democracy, have registered with the national army, said Lt. Bechir Dopani, commander of the presidential guard detachment in the town.
About 100 also turned up in the town of Kaga-Bandoro, officials said.
