BAMAKO, Mali (AP) - Laura Bush wrapped up a tour of Africa on Friday by visiting a school and sitting in on a math class in Mali, saying she was impressed by education efforts in the country.
The larger focus of the first lady's tour this week was AIDS, and the former schoolteacher also visited Zambia, Mozambique and Senegal all countries that have benefited from U.S. AIDS funding. She was accompanied by her daughter Jenna.
In Mali's capital during her four-hour stop, Mrs. Bush praised the U.S. education initiative in Africa, which has provided some $600 million to the continent's schools.
