CINCINNATI (AP) - Barry Bonds hit his 751st home run on the third pitch he saw Tuesday night, a two-run shot deep into the seats in right-center to pull him within four of Hank Aaron's record.
The San Francisco slugger stepped into the batter's box in the first inning to boos from every corner of Great American Ball Park, far different from the loving treatment he receives back home in the Bay Area.
The drive off right-hander Aaron Harang traveled an estimated 409 feet, the second home run Harang has allowed to the seven-time NL MVP. It gave the Giants a 2-0 lead on Harang's 27th pitch.
