BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) - A panel appointed by Thailand's coup leaders to draw up a new constitution agreed on a final draft Friday and scheduled a referendum in August, making elections a possibility later this year.
The Constitution Drafting Assembly has spent months trying to eliminate loopholes that many Thais say made it easy for former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatrato abuse his powers.
Thaksin was ousted by the military in September while he was attending a U.N. session in New York. The bloodless coup followed huge demonstrations against his rule.
