THOPPIGALA, Sri Lanka (AP) - Army commandos seized a massive rocky plateau nicknamed "Tora Bora" and searched grassy fields and brush Monday looking for as many as 200 Tamil Tiger rebels the last organized resistance, the military said, to government forces in eastern Sri Lanka.
The top army commander on the ground said the operation will conclude by the end of July and bring all of eastern Sri Lanka under government control for the first time since 1994, dealing a major blow to the Tigers' two-decade fight for an independent Tamil homeland.
The commander spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.
