TOKYO (AP) - More than 20 percent of Japan's population are aged 65 or over, the highest rate among 37 nations with populations of more than 30 million, according to a government report, highlighting concerns about Japan's rapidly aging population.
Japan's elderly ratio stands at 20.1 percent, followed by Italy at 19.7 percent and Germany at 18.8 percent, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said in the report, released Tuesday.
The ratio for the U.S. stood at 12.3 percent, 11th among the 37 countries, according to the report.
