SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Ichiro Suzuki became the first player to hit an inside-the-park home run in an All-Star Game to spark the American League's 5-4 win over the National League on Tuesday night.
The NL led 1-0 until Ichiro's drive hit the wall and caromed away from right fielder Ken Griffey Jr. The two-run drive put the American League ahead to stay before Carl Crawford and Victor Martinez added homers.
Martinez smacked a two-run shot that put the American League ahead 5-2 in the eighth. The National League showed some life with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, when Alfonso Soriano belted a two-run homer off J.J. Putz. The NL loaded the bases on three consecutive walks before Francisco Rodriguez got Aaron Rowand to hit a game-ending flyout.
