KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - U.S.-led coalition and Afghan forces killed 36 suspected Taliban rebels in a series of clashes and air strikes Thursday in southern Afghanistan, officials said. A NATO soldier was killed and two others were wounded in another operation.
In the east, roadside blasts left six police officers dead, officials said.
In southern Helmand province, U.S.-led coalition and Afghan troops were attacked by militants holed up in Gereshk district compound, said Maj. Gen. Muhiddin Ghori of the Afghan National Army. The joint forces called in an airstrike on the compound, leaving 20 suspected Taliban fighters dead.
