Somali Peace Conference Delayed Again

(AP Photo/ Mohamed Abdulle Hassan Siidi)MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) - A long-awaited Somali peace conference was delayed again Sunday after Islamic insurgents fired eight mortar rounds at the venue on the opening day and hundreds of delegates failed to arrive, officials said.

The shells landed about 300 yards from the conference site, where President Abdullahi Yusuf was speaking, and three people were wounded, police said.

The conference, aimed at helping the country heal the wounds of 16 years of conflict, was postponed until Thursday.
