SEATTLE (AP) - Jeremy Guthrie pitched six strong innings, and Jay Gibbons' three-run homer gave Baltimore the lead for good in the Orioles' 8-3 win over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night.
Guthrie (5-3) won for the first time since June 20 against San Diego, a span of four starts. He wasn't phased by three errors committed by his defense, holding Seattle to just six hits and two runs. He was helped by an offense that broke out with 14 hits and scored all of its runs after the fifth inning.
Gibbons drove in a season-high five runs and Nick Markakis matched his career high with four hits for Baltimore. It was Markakis' second four-hit game of the season.
