BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - The European Commission said Wednesday it had dropped its antitrust investigation into mobile phone roaming prices charged by operators in Britain and Germany after new EU rules forcing telecom companies to cut the cost of using mobile phones abroad.
European Union regulators opened probes into charges levied by Vodafone Group PLC and O2 PLC in Britain and Vodafone and T-Mobile International AG's practices in Germany over two years ago.
The EU head office said at the time it was "concerned that their wholesale roaming tariffs charged to other European mobile network operators ... were excessive" and said the companies could be abusing their dominant market positions.
