LONDON (AP) - The U.S. dollar hit a record low against the euro and a 26-year low against the British pound in European trading Wednesday before regaining ground. Gold rose.
The euro reached $1.3833 in early European trading, beating the previous record of $1.3813 set on July 13. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.3809, still higher than its level of $1.3784 late Tuesday.
Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Tuesday, included 121.79 Japanese yen, down from 122.38; 1.1987 Swiss francs, down from 1.2032; and 1.0426 Canadian dollars, down from 1.0433.
