ATLANTA (AP) - Paul Broun was ready to be sworn in as Georgia's next congressman after his Republican runoff opponent on Tuesday decided against a recount, even though the margin was just a few hundred votes.
Former state Sen. Jim Whitehead was entitled to a recount with a 394-vote margin, but he said he decided against one because the process could take up to a week.
"The people of this district have been without a federal representative since February, and that's long enough," Whitehead said in a statement. "For the good of the people of this district I will let the results stand and allow us to regain our vote in the House immediately."
