BOSTON (AP) - Vernon Wells broke out of a slump with a tiebreaking homer in the ninth inning and two singles, and the Toronto Blue Jays ended Boston's four-game winning streak with a 6-4 victory over the Red Sox on Wednesday night.
Wells connected for a two-run shot after Hideki Okajima (3-2) hit leadoff batter Gregg Zaun with a pitch and John McDonald sacrificed. The drive to center field came on Okajima's first pitch. It gave Wells, who entered the game hitless in 14 at-bats, 16 homers after he hit 32 last season.
Troy Glaus' 20th homer, a solo shot in the eighth off Manny Delcarmen, tied the score after Jason Varitek's 13th, a two-run homer, put Boston on top 4-3 in the sixth.
