ALGIERS, Algeria (AP) - An Algerian police convoy escorting European workers was bombed Friday, injuring nine people in the latest sign of renewed extremist violence in the country.
The Interior Ministry said two French citizens, one Italian, their Algerian driver, and five gendarmes were injured but "out of danger."
The al-Arabiya satellite channel aired an audiotape in which an extremist group called al-Qaida in Islamic North Africa claimed responsibility. It said a suicide bomber drove a Mazda carrying 550 pounds of explosives into the convoy.
