WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) - A magnitude 6.4 earthquake hit deep under the South Pacific seabed between Fiji and New Zealand Wednesday, and there were no reports of injury or damage, officials said.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported the temblor, nearly 300 miles below the earth's surface, hit at 7:05 a.m., about 500 miles from both Suva in Fiji and Auckland, New Zealand.
No tsunami warning was issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii following the quake, the agency said on its web site.
