SIRTE, Libya (AP) - Four Chadian rebel groups signed a final peace agreement with their government Thursday, three weeks after negotiating the preliminary deal.
The parties agreed to an immediate cease-fire, amnesty for civil and military personnel and the release of all detainees from both sides. The rebels were granted the right to form political parties and will share power within the government. They will also be allowed to join the military and security forces.
"I hope that this is the last stage in the peace process in Chad, and I guarantee that all signatories will abide by the agreement," said Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi who presided over the talks in the Libyan city of Sirte alongside Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and Chadian President Idriss Deby.
