Friday, January 04, 2008 6:09:06 PM
By PAUL SCHEMM

This undated photo provided Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008 by Clark University, John Granville, left, is shown with an unidentified woman, location unknown. Granville was shot and killed early Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, by gunmen in a passing car who cut him off as he was being driven home in Sudan's capital. Investigators from the FBI arrived in Khartoum Thursday to investigate the shooting death of Granville, as his body was set to be flown out of the country, embassy officials said. (AP Photo/Clark University) CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - Sudanese officials have promised to cooperate with a team of four FBI agents sent to probe the fatal shooting of an American diplomat, and the U.S. may send more investigators to assist, the State Department said Friday.

The initial FBI team that arrived Thursday has secured promises of assistance from Sudanese authorities in their investigation of the killing of John Granville, an official with the U.S. Agency for International Development, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said.

Granville was being driven home around 4 a.m. Tuesday when his car was cut off by another vehicle and came under fire, according to the Sudanese Interior Ministry. Granville was hit by five bullets and died after surgery. His driver, Abdel-Rahman Abbas, was also killed.
