SAfrica Top Cop Faces Corruption Charges

CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) - South Africa's national police commissioner is facing corruption charges, prosecutors said Friday, in a case that has raised tensions between the country's two top law enforcement agencies.

Jackie Selebi, who also holds the largely ceremonial post of Interpol president, tried to block the move in Pretoria's High Court but the judge dismissed the application.

The National Prosecuting Authority said the charges related to Selebi's "generally corrupt relationship" with Glen Agliotti, a convicted drug trafficker. Selebi has consistently protested his innocence.
