WASHINGTON (AP) - Federal regulators approved a Wyeth drug Thursday to prevent and control bleeding in patients with a rare blood-clotting disorder.
The Food and Drug Administration cleared Xyntha for the treatment of hemophilia, which can cause severe bleeding after even minor injuries. About 15,000 Americans have hemophilia.
The agency also cleared the drug to prevent surgical bleeding in patients with the disease, which almost exclusively affects men.
