WASHINGTON (AP) - A Feb. 18 story by The Associated Press reported that two senators were urging the Pentagon to investigate allegations that the Marine Corps refused an urgent request from battlefield commanders in 2005 for blast-resistant vehicles.
The allegations were contained in a study that was prepared by a civilian Marine Corps official and that was first reported on by the AP in a story Feb. 15.
A paragraph in the Feb. 18 story stated flatly that the AP had reported hundreds of U.S. Marines had been killed or injured by roadside bombs in Iraq because Marine Corps officials refused the request of the commanders. The paragraph should have attributed that claim to the study.
