 HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - The mystery of a couple who disappeared from this tiny resort island has deepened with the apparent suicide of a business executive just hours after he was named a person of interest in the case.
John and Elizabeth Calvert had been in the process of severing their ties with the company Dennis Ray Gerwing worked for when they disappeared March 3. Gerwing, who authorities believe was the last person to see the couple, was found dead in his condominium Tuesday.
Police said Gerwing, 54, left two suicide notes behind, but they would not release the contents.
