LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The chairwoman of the legislative black caucus said Wednesday that she's concerned by her party's efforts to block a former legislator from returning to the state House seat he left to settle a felony sexual assault charge.
Sen. Irma Hunter Brown said she believes the voters in the district of former Rep. Dwayne Dobbins, who is black, should be the ones to decide whether the Democrat is fit to return to the Legislature.
Dobbins was the only candidate to file for his old seat, currently held by his wife. Democratic Party Chairman Bill Gwatney has asked the Democrat to withdraw from the race and is trying to recruit a write-in candidate.
