EU Calls for China Restraint in Tibet

BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner says EU leaders have appealed to China to show restraint in Tibet after reports of gunfire amid rioting during the largest demonstrations in nearly two decades.

Kouchner says the EU's condemnation is strong considering it comes from the entire 27-nation bloc.

The EU appeal did not refer to possible action on the August 8-24 Olympic games in Beijing.
