VOLCANO, Hawaii (AP) - An explosion at the erupting Kilauea volcano has scattered rocks over an area including a tourist lookout. No one is reported injured.
A scientist says Wednesday's explosion was the first in the Halemaumau (hah-lay-MOW'-mow) Crater in the Kilauea (kil-uh-WAY'-uh) volcano since 1924.
There were no reports of anyone in the area during the event, just before 3 a.m. The U.S. Geological Survey's Hawaiian Volcano Observatory initially reported it as an earthquake.
