FRANKFURT (AP) - Former U.S. captain Mia Hamm, a two-time world player of the year, has been appointed international ambassador for the 2011 women's World Cup in Germany.
Hamm's appointment was announced Thursday, ahead of an exhibition between United States and Germany in Augsburg.
"No other player has had a more positive impact on the women's game than Mia Hamm," said Steffi Jones, the president of the organizing committee. "As well as her incredible ability on the field, she's a wonderful team player as I experienced first hand when we played together at the Washington Freedom.
