Union leader says Philly transit strike will go on

Saturday, November 07, 2009 7:19:48 PM

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The president of Philadelphia's largest transit union says it will continue to strike and its members will not be back to work Monday morning.

Willie Brown says his union has agreed only on proposed wages in a contract presented by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. He says that the union wants an independent audit to ensure the security of its pension funds.

Brown says the union won't consider reopening negotiations if a national health care overhaul plan were passed. SEPTA has asked for such an agreement.
